Lana Slezic studied Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario from 1992 to 1996. This was followed by a six-month trip to Asia during which she fell in love with the notion of capturing an image. In 1999, she returned to Canada to study photojournalism. Lana spent the first two years of her career working for newspapers, but it was always documentary photography that felt congruently natural and unnerving to her. She left the steadiness of the media world and began her own projects, giving her the time and space to discover the art of story telling. She has won a number of awards including a World Press Photo Award.
